For those in the know, the Wayne Stahnke Live Performance LX needs no introduction. Wayne probably could have rested on his laurels when the LX predecessor received high praise from pianist Earl Wild, “The reproduction is wonderful. It reigns supreme over any reproducing piano I’ve ever played, and I’ve played every kind over the last 50 years.” But Wayne chose to keep going and outdo his own self with the LX system.
Wayne’s passion was set off at the young age of only 13 when he observed a player piano at Disneyland and he couldn’t help but be fascinated to the point of determination to build a reproducing piano. He ended up earning a degree in electrical engineering and enjoying a successful career as a software engineer for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but his desire to create a reproducing piano system remained kindled, a system that could satisfy even the world’s finest musicians.
Though it took him more than a decade to engineer and build his first system, the rest is history and it’s no wonder his inventions remain so highly sought after. When we get to rebuild high end grand pianos that have one of these Wayne Stahnke Live Performance LX reproducing player systems, the enthusiasm level in the shop goes into overdrive!
Another beautiful example of the Live Performance LX system is the 1918 Steinway and Sons rare long scale Model A3 restoration in “Silver and Black” shown below.
